End of Year Review Idea

The end of 2012 is drawing near and I have gone back and forth on how I should do an end of the year column. My original plan was to do a generic one where I pick my superstar/diva/tag team of the year and who I think was a breakout star and who was underutilized, but I decided against that. After reading Lords of Pains new column, "The King of Stats" I decided that maybe a whole statistic based awards would be fun to do, especially since I am very interested in statistics. I will not be including superstars and divas in the same rankings so each of these will have their own award. Here are the awards I have decided on:

Superstar/Diva of the year: This superstar/diva has the highest win percentage of all their matches.
Jobber of the year: This superstar/diva has the lowest win percentage.
Workaholic: This superstar/diva had the most matches during the year.
Couch Potato: This superstar/diva had the least number of matches during the year.
Tag Team of the Year: These two superstars have the best overall win percentage. (I will combine their win/loss records for the year.)
Jobber Tag Team of the Year: These two superstars have the worst overall win percentage.

For a superstar to qualify, they must have at least ten matches during the year. I made this rule so that someone like The Undertaker cannot win Superstar of the year since he would have won 100% of his matches since he only wrestled in one match. All these win/loss records are based off of televised events or WWE web shows (RAW, Smackdown, NXT, Superstars, Saturday Morning Slam, The Main Event, and Pay Per Views). I will also include a list of every superstar/diva that has not met the 10 match limit.

I will also be including all of the information on each of the titles. (How many times the title changed hands and who held the titles and what dates they held them during the year.)

For the tag team awards, I am using every tag team that has wrestled for WWE this year. Altogether, the two must both have had ten matches during the year to qualify. This includes all tag teams from Air Bourne that were still around in January to Team Hell No that is more recent.

I will also be doing a Pay Per View awards section. To be eligible for the PPV awards you must have at least three PPV matches. Here are the award ideas I have for this:

Main Eventer of the Year: This superstar appeared in the most PPV main events.
Curtain Jerker of the Year: This superstar appeared in the most opening matches of a PPV.
PPV Superstar/Diva of the Year: This superstar/diva has won the most matches at a PPV.
PPV Jobber of the Year: This superstar/diva has loss the most matches at a PPV.
Perfect Attendance: This superstar/diva has had a match during every PPV of the year.

A note on the Royal Rumble and battle royals: If the Royal Rumble is the main event not every superstar will get a point for being in the main event. I am only going to consider it in their rankings if they were in the final four combatants left in the ring. Also, concerning Royal Rumbles and battle royals, if a superstar/diva is eliminated it does not count as a loss, but the superstar who does win will get a win added to their record.

Now for the greater picture. I want to have a ranking for every year during the modern/PPV era of the WWE. I have already started working on the 1985 rankings, which is the year of the first Wrestlemania. These are hard to do because it is hard to find every televised event, so forgive me if I miss a few here or there, but by using www.historyofwwe.com it is working out pretty well. Until the WWE has all big four PPV's I will not be including the PPV awards during the earlier rankings because there is not enough data.

I am no longer going to do a Power 25. I just got full time job and it is too time consuming. I will still be doing Pay Per View predictions and other columns every now and then. I am going to try to do the Royal Rumble and Championship profiles periodically more than I have.

Spring Cleaning Part 2

Here are the rest of the superstars who I think may have a chance to be future endeavored this year. Just like last time I will judge them based on the grading scale of safe or sorry.

Michael McGillicutty

To make sure that I didn't forget anybody, I was using WWE website's superstars section. To tell you the truth, I was still surprised he was a part of the roster. This is a toss up for me. On one hand he is a former WWE Tag Team Champion and could just be moved down to FCW and repackaged and brought back up to the main roster. On the other hand, he hasn't wrestled on live television in a long time. After further research, I did not realize he was on NXT Redemption, but that still does not count as live television since it is only available on the internet in the United States. After realizing he just had a current feud on NXT I will call him safe.

Tyler Reks

 Just like his tag team partner, Curt Hawkins, Tyler Reks is not used very much on television except for appearances on Superstars and NXT (which aren't shown in the United States on television). I will have to say sorry to Tyler Reks. Especially if you think about how Reks and Hawkins were drafted to NXT and none of the superstars on NXT are suppose to technically have a WWE contract since it is a "reality show". 

Jinder Mahal

 I wish I could just go ahead and say sorry right now, but I can't. I really hate this guy. He is boring and has done nothing since he ended his tag team with The Great Khali. I don not think he is going to be gone any time soon. With the rumor that Khali may be on his last legs, WWE wants to keep their India fanbase happy. So Jinder Mahal is safe.

Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel

The reason I put these two together is because they have a very similar story and were just recently thrown into a tag team. Ask me about them a month ago and I would have said that they were probably going to be released in the next group of releases. Now, that the WWE has thrown them together into a tag team, I believe that their chances to stay are pretty high, even with Justin Gabriel's injury. I am excited for this because I have been a fan of their work since they both debuted. On the New Hart Foundation I enjoyed watching Tyson Kidd way more than DH Smith and Justin Gabriel was always my favorite member of the original Nexus. I will say safe on both of them.

Trent Barreta

 Another person on the roster that is going nowhere, and going nowhere fast. His last feud was against Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks where they would play pranks on each other. This was in late 2011 and early 2012. To make a long story short (actually his story really isn't that long), Trent Barreta will be Sorry.

Spring Cleaning Part 1

It has been rumored that WWE is going to start cleaning up their roster soon. Here are my thoughts on who I think should start filling out some applications and who I think may possibly be safe. I will not highlight everyone on the roster. We know that people like John Cena, Beth Phoenix, and Randy Orton are safe, this is mainly about the lowest of the midcards. I will be grading them by calling them safe or sorry.

Alex Riley

  

A year ago he was Miz's right hand man. Now he is cannon fodder to the Lord Tensai and the first person  eliminated in this year's Royal Rumble. I do not think that he is completely safe from being future endeavored, but I am going to predict he is safe.

Aksana

Has she even amounted to anything since NXT? I quit watching NXT after season 2, but everyone ends up on the main roster anyway so it really doesn't matter. She is kind of a toss up. On one hand she did have an actual storyline, on the other hand it was as Teddy Long's girl. I am going to go on a limb here and say sorry.

Curt Hawkins

 Here is the Marty Jannetty of the Major Brothers/Edgeheads. He has not amounted to anything since Zack Ryder left him. The only thing he will beat Zack Ryder at is being future endeavored first. Sorry.

Ezekiel Jackson

 When Ezekiel won the Intercontinental Title I thought there were big things ahead for him. I still think that there may be something there for him. He fits the perfect build that Vince likes and I'm going to say safe. 

Heath Slater

The one man rock band may be playing his final show. Out of all the members of the Nexus, he seemed to do the least after the storyline ended. I am going to say sorry.

The Usos

 
Ask me this a year ago and I would have said they were out the door. Now with the tag division dwindling and no one else to challenge Epico and Primo I think that they are safe.

JTG

I have always thought that JTG was the less talented of the two Cryme Tyme members and I was surprised when he lasted longer than Shad. Sorry.

These are my thoughts on a few of the people that I think should be watching their backs or they are going to be joining the future endeavored club. What do you think? Comment below!

The Next Big Thing Comes to WWE

To tell you the truth, I am very indifferent about Lesnar returning to the WWE. I was especially not happy with how he returned on this past Monday's episode of RAW. John Cena just got beaten by The Rock and I felt that having Lesnar come and F5 him was like pouring salt in the wound. I understand that the WWE is ecstatic to have been able to make this deal, but I do not think that they should have Lesnar run around like he owns the place. Lesnar debuted on WWE television on March 18, 2002. His last match was on March 14, 2004. That is only two years that he was with the company! He shouldn't run around like he runs the place when there are people like The Undertaker who have been working for the company for 21 years. Even the Rock was with the company for seven years before he decided to give Hollywood a try. The guy he F5ed, John Cena, has been with the company five times longer than he ever was.

That leads me to my next topic. There is a rumor going around that they want The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 29 in New Jersey. I think that is a stupid idea. Why would you take the championship from a younger, more deserving person and put it on someone who just wrestled their first singles match in nine years? I feel like that match can get enough draws without the championship having to be on the line. There are many more deserving people of the championship than The Rock. The WWE keep saying that they want to move towards younger guys, but keep bringing back all of these past employees. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing The Rock on my TV and I about jumped out of my seat when Lesnar's music hit, but do not let them crowd the main event scene. Let them have feuds that are not about the title.
